CORNERSTONE SYSTEMS EXPANDS BUSINESS IN NORFOLK AREA

Memphis, TN, April 18, 2008 -- Cornerstone Systems, a leading nationwide provider of solutions for transportation and logistics, announces the opening of its second warehouse facility in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Guy Wallace, Assistant Vice President of Sales for Cornerstone’s Portsmouth, VA office, says the new facility will add 98,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space to the company’s existing 50,000 sq. ft. facility there. “The new warehouse is located within ½ mile of our original location, and is very close to the interstate and local terminals.  The central location allows us to better serve the transportation needs of the area”, said Wallace. “Both facilities are within ten miles of the terminals for Norfolk International, Portsmouth Marine, and Newport News, as well as the new APM facility.” The new Cook Blvd. warehouse has 24 outside doors and 1 drive-thru door. 

According to Wallace, Cornerstone has seen a change in shipping patterns due to skyrocketing fuel costs and the need for faster delivery.  “More of our customers are looking for direct distribution from the port to their facility rather than transloads.  Our new facility here is perfect for this type of business.” 

Due to the deep draft Port at Hampton Roads, the Norfolk area serves as a prime delivery point for larger ships bringing imported goods from Asia.  This fact, along with the continuing overuse of the west coast ports, makes Norfolk, with its central U.S. location, a prime point of growth in the shipping industry.
