Rick Rodell was the founder of Cornerstone Systems, characterized by visionary leadership and genuine kindness that extended to everyone around him. 

Rick’s journey in the transportation industry is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and relentless drive. He founded Cornerstone Systems in October 2002, but his impact began long before that. From his early days at Illinois Central Gulf Railroad to establishing R.J. Rodell and Associates and then leading Manufacturers Consolidation Service, Rick’s passion for creating meaningful connections and serving others was evident every step of the way.

He was also a true pioneer in the industry of Intermodal Marketing Companies (IMCs), particularly in the realm of railroads. Rick’s innovative approach and strategic vision helped transform how intermodal logistics are managed, setting standards that advanced the industry and opened new pathways for growth and efficiency.

His leadership has not only shaped our company but also left an indelible mark on the industry. Recognized as Transportation Club International Person of the Year in 2011 and honored as a Tennessee Volunteer, Rick’s contributions extended beyond business. He was deeply committed to philanthropy, supporting countless organizations dedicated to making a difference, from youth initiatives to international outreach.

Rick always held a clear vision for Cornerstone: creating a better place for people to work. This vision, along with our Core Values, continues to guide us today. He believed wholeheartedly that, “It’s the employees who truly make the difference. They’re the ones our customers interact with, and they’re the driving force behind our success.” Inspired by this belief, Rick led the way in transforming Cornerstone into an Employee-Owned company, achieving 100% employee ownership in 2020 – a testament to his unwavering faith in our people.

Rick’s death on May 24th, 2025, marked the end of an era for Cornerstone. Still, his legacy of integrity, innovation, compassion, and vision will forever be woven into the fabric of the company. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and principles will continue to steer us forward.
